About Us
Vivergo Fuels is a joint venture formed to build and operate a world-scale biofuel plant in the UK. BP and British Sugar’s parent company, Associated British Foods (ABF), each hold 45% of the joint venture with DuPont holding the remaining 10%.
This collaboration brings together BP’s fuels technology expertise and access to major fuel markets; British Sugar’s experience in the agricultural value chain and links to feedstock supply and co-product expertise; and DuPont’s biotechnology and bio-manufacturing capabilities.
The plant will produce bioethanol from wheat and will be built at BP’s chemicals site at Saltend, Hull, which has access to feedstocks, steam and power and significant experience in the construction and running of chemical process plants. The plant capacity will be 420m litres (330,000 tonnes) of bioethanol per year and is planned to come on stream in mid 2010. Once operational around 70 new full-time posts will be created.
Aker Kvaerner has been appointed as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contractor (EPC) together with its Joint Venture partner Praj providing the technology expertise. Front end engineering and design work on the plant has begun and the plant is due to be operational in mid 2010.
This exciting new business will help meet delivery of the UK’s forecast biofuel demand in 2010, which has been stimulated by the introduction of the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO).
